Confidentiality
I believe strongly in protecting and maintaining the confidentiality of my clients.
Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust. Subject matter is completely confidential*. The best therapists always have a strong moral commitment to protecting the anonymity of their clients.
In the province of Quebec, licensed psychotherapists, who are members of a professional order, are legally obligated to protect your confidentiality in their psychotherapy practices.
*The exceptions to licensed psychotherapist confidentiality are:
- Minors under 14 require parental consent
- Threats of serious harm to self or others
- Abuse of a child
- Ordered by a judge as part of a criminal proceeding
If you're concerned about your rights and your therapist's responsibilities visit the Canadian Psychological Association page on Federal Privacy Legislation.
